Hours later, Trump, posting on Twitter and Facebook, said: ‚The resolution being considered at the United Nations Security Council regarding Israel should be vetoed.‘ Trump said that ‚as the United States has long maintained, peace between the Israelis and Palestinians will only come through direct negotiations between the parties, and not through the imposition of terms by the United Nations‘. (…) The White House declined to comment. Some diplomats hope Obama will allow Security Council action by abstaining on the vote. Israel’s security cabinet was due to hold a special session at 3 p.m. to discuss the issue.“ (Bericht in der Jerusalem Post: „Trump calls for Obama to veto UN resolution on halting Israeli settlements“)
UPDATE: Ägypten zieht Antrag für Resolution zurück
„The effort to push through an anti-settlements resolution at the United Nations Security Council on Thursday constituted a diplomatic ‚hit‘ by US President Barack Obama against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the settlement enterprise, according to a senior source in Jerusalem quoted by Israeli television on Thursday night.
The resolution, introduced by Egypt overnight Wednesday-Thursday, was withdrawn by Cairo hours before it was scheduled for a vote on Thursday evening. According to Israel’s Channel 2, Egypt agreed to withdraw the resolution after President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi was sent ‚messages‘ by President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team urging him to do so. (…) Unconfirmed reports earlier Thursday claimed the Obama Administration was preparing to abstain on the vote, and wouldn’t employ its veto.“ (Bericht in der Times of Israel: „Trump saved Israel from diplomatic ‚hit‘ by Obama at UN, official in Jerusalem quoted saying“)
